Bohol

Cities

  • Tagbilaran — Capital of Bohol and the main point of entry to the island, including nearby Panglao Island.
  • Anda — A small seaside town on the east coast with a long white sand beach that has nothing to envy Alona. Amazingly friendly and refreshingly relaxed; here you are treated as a person and not just as a client like in Panglao. A few decent resorts dot the beach.
  • Loboc — Rivertown with historic church and idyllic falls. Home of the famous Loboc Children's Choir. Also famous for its River Cruise including serenade and buffet lunch.
  • Carmen — Launching point for tours of the Chocolate Hills
  • Corella — The best place in the Philippines to spot a tarsier in the wild.
  • Tubigon— Port town with great connections to Cebu and the Loom Weaving Cooperative is worth a visit.
  • Baclayon — Port with tours to Pamilacan Island and the town where the old Baclayon Church (established in 1727) is located. Elegant heritage houses line the main road.
  • Bilar — Gateway to Bilar & Rajah Sikatuna National Park.
  • Dauis — Historic Church with lovely seaside setting, pilgrimage site, and venue for heritage-themed dinners, exhibits, tours, cafe, craft shop featuring local jewelry
  • Dimiao — Village on southern side of Bohol with sunrise and sunset views, tide pool, waterfall hike, romantic outlooks from karst rocks, river trekking, snorkelling

By plane

Philippine Airlines (PAL), Cebu Pacific, and Air Aisa all service the Tagbilaran Airport. Currently all flights are during the day, however there are plans to upgrade the Tagbilaran airport to accommodate night flights. The Tagbilaran airport has had recent renovations. The tarmac accomodates 2 planes at time. PAL typically uses an Airbus 319 for service to Bohol.

By boat
The Tagbilaran City Tourist Pier handles more than 4,000 travellers on a daily basis. Nine daily ship visits from Cebu are processed efficiently, with other ships from ManilaCagayan de Oro CityDumagueteDipologIligan CityLarenaPlaridel and Ozamiz City also welcomed on a regular basis. Another four port terminals cater specifically to Cebu and northern Mindanao routes. Additional berthing space for fast-craft ferries is currently under construction.

One way from Cebu is ₱500 by ocean jet and ₱800 for the round trip. (April 2014) / Bohol fast ferries schedule

Another easy entry point to Bohol is Tubigon. The port city in the North East has over 20 daily ferry connections to Cebu and the ride only takes about 1 to 1 1/2 hours. Also, it is the cheaper option than taking the ferry directly to Tagbilaran - a ride costs about half the price (200-250 pesos). Tubigon is well connected to all the major tourist attractions on Bohol. Tagbilaran, Panglao and the Chocolate Hills can easily be reached by bus or V-hire from here.

TARA NA'T SA BOHOL ATING SAKSIHAN ANG MAGAGANDANG TANAWIN.
Bohol Water Falls and Springs

Mag-aso Falls

The Mag-aso Falls is one of Bohol’s natural treasures. With a height of 25 feet, the twin falls is picturesque against a backdrop of tall trees, wild plants including giant ferns, and deep ravines. Once on the site, while bathing and surrounded by the natural landscape, one feels immersed in a middle of a jungle with the sound of the interminable chirping of the birds and the rush of flowing waters playing music to your ears. The falls can be found in barangay Mag-aso.

Camugao Falls

The Camugao Falls in San Isidro, Balilihan is another attraction and passable only by a motorcycle. You will pass by rugged cliffs and ravines as you trek down the falls.

Can-umantad Falls

Can-umantad Falls s the most beautiful falls that I have ever seen in Bohol. It looks so majestic! From far off, you will see the falls as one high drop but upon closer look, the falls is in fact in three layers although the 3rd layer is further off and shorter.

Bohol Beaches

Bolod Beach is located at barangay Bolod and situated on the south side of the island, about two and a half kilometers east of Alona Beach. The beach has a one and a half kilometer stretch of white sand, the largest shoreline in the area.

Doljo Beach is located at Barangay Doljo, Panglao Island. It lies on the northwest side of the island and at its very tip. The 3km beach is relatively unexplored and undeveloped, wide and with white sand that stretches so far out and the sea bed slopping gently towards the deep. It is fringed with tall coconut palm trees which add much to its tropical look. The place is noted for its beautiful and exquisite seashells. With calm, deep and clear waters and the sea bed free of sea grasses plus myriads of colorful marine life, it is a favorite hang-out of local folks.

ANDA Beach in Anda is 101 km from  Tagbilaran City. The white sand beach is clean and the waters unpolluted.

Boholano Delicacies

Dried Mango- Dried fruits are an all-time Philippine favourite. Most common are dried mango’s, but you can also buy guava, soursop, and even sour tamarind…

Calamay - This is one of the must-try treats when visiting Bohol. Though calamay is known across that country (with other names), nothing beats the Calamay from Jagna, enclosed in a coconut shell and sealed with a red band. It is a concoction of glutinous rice, sugar, coconut milk and some peanuts.

Peanut Kisses - This is a signature Boholano recipe and only here you can find cookies shaped like a miniature Chocolate Hills (the famous attraction of Bohol) or Hershey Kisses. It is basically made of high-quality peanuts and eggs, baked crisp to bring that nutty crunch in every bite. Every department stores and souvenir shops have displays of these delicious pasalubongs.

Boholano Delicacies

Boholano Ubi Polvoron. Ubi is a purple variety of yam, for which Bohol is famous. Polvoron is a delicacy that has its roots in Andalucia, Spain, but has become part of the Spanish legacy in the Philippines. According to Spanish tradition, you’ll have to say “Pamplona” as quickly as possible after eating polvoron.

Biko - A famous Filipino recipe and can be seen in almost all Filipino celebrations. It is made of glutinous rice, coconut milk, sugar (latik).

Maruya (Banana Fritters)

These are among the favorites, not just to the children but to adults as well. Made from Saba bananas, dipped in a sticky mixture, fried and then rolled in sugar, it is perfect for everyday snacks and healthy too.

Broa (Lady Fingers) - A cookie, native from Baclayon, soft in texture that literally melts in your mouth once you take a bite. It is light and crisp, perfect for snacks with milk, coffee or hot chocolate. It is also recommended in making Mango Refrigerator Cake.

Otap (sometimes spelled utap) is an oval-shaped puff pastry in the Philippines, especially common in Cebu where it originated. It usually consists of a combination of flour, shortening, coconut, and sugar. In order to achieve the texture of the pastry, it must undergo a two-stage baking process.
