10. Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception in Baclayon


Definitely not the oldest stone church in the country, but the best-preserved Jesuit-built church in the region – Historical Baclayon Church.
Known as the second oldest stone church in the Philippines, Church of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception in Baclayon was completed in 1717. The iconic and historic church has been serving the people of Baclayon for over three centuries. Interestingly, the church was built using corals and egg whites.

  • Activities To Do:
    – While parts of the church have been damaged by a recent earthquake, the church’s facade remains intact. The architecture and interiors have also been preserved enough for a few snaps.
    – A convent-turned-museum also sits adjacent to the church. It houses several religious artifacts dating back to the 16th century. Anyone who loves history would enjoy this site.
  • Travel Tip: Because of the age of the relics found in the museum, photos are not allowed inside.
  • From Manila, just take a flight to Tagbilaran, which takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes. It is also possible to take a boat to Bohol, but will take 25 hours, and is only advisable if you have plenty of time at hand and enjoy a trip on sea, or have to travel on a rock-bottom budget or with a lot of luggage. Currently, there are numerous daily flights from Manila to Tagbilaran.
